Health Benefits Of Apples And Apple Products: Research Highlights
Prostate Cancer
A 2001study from Rochester, Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic became the first to link quercetin – an antioxidant flavonoid found most abundantly in apples – to potential protection and treatment of prostate cancer. Researchers who conducted the laboratory study noted that quercetin reduced or prevented the growth of human prostate cancer cells by blocking activity of androgen hormones (which have been previously linked to the growth and development of prostate cancer).
